“The road to success is always under construction,” is something trainer Christa Petrillo often says when helping people understand natural horsemanship, training and the realities of horse ownership. Good horsemanship is a process that over time has its rewards. "Foundation is everything" says Christa, "without a solid foundation the relationship can come apart at any time." Understanding the "total horse"- how they think, their natural instinctive behavior, their varying personality traits and how they relate, basic anatomy, their physical needs along with a solid understanding of conformation- form to function, tack, saddle fitting, injury and pain management, "barn management", and more is crucial to experiencing a relationship between horse and rider that is optimal for both and is what Christa Petrillo is an expert in teaching to her students.
Christa Petrillo's personal horsemanship foundation is rooted and influenced by all time natural horsemanship greats such as the Dorrance brothers, Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman; and more directly by John and Josh Lyon. Christa is a John and Josh Lyons Certified Trainer and a Lyons Legacy Performance Accredited Trainer. An even greater influence however, were the horses themselves. Having grown up on a breeding farm, it has been said that she was raised by horses.
Christa's passion for horses and love of teaching along with a natural gift of communication leaves her students with their heads spinning, filled to the brim, desiring more.
It has been said by many, "Christa has some sort of way with horses - you can see it when they look at her - or rather, look TO her. They know she is a safe, fair leader and they trust her."
On any given day, you can find Christa handling a foal or starting a young horse, re-educating a problem horse, finding the perfect match of horse and rider in the sale component of her business, putting the finishing touches on a top show contender, rehabilitating horses, or breeding and managing stallions at stud.
In addition to her work with horses and riders, Christa also maintains a busy clinic schedule. Her coaching is geared toward more than just riding the horse; she also sets her clients on the right path to becoming conscientious equestrians. This includes educating students on nutrition, conditioning, safety, equine behavior, veterinary work, equipment, saddle fitting and more. Christa also exposes her clients to equine acupuncture and chiropractic work.
Talented, ambitious, enthusiastic, and passionate about her work, Christa, her clients, and horses are “On the Road to Success.” Grateful for her success, Christa views her skill with horses and people as a gift from God. The scripture that guides her is Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
Today Christa teaches students at her clinics and in private lessons and trains client’s horses along with breeding, training and showing her own. She also is a "Horse Wrangler" for the motion picture industry, managing horses and riders for various scenes, and performs as a stunt rider.
